YouTube introduced Sounds On Shorts, a new playlist feature for Shorts.

After tapping a sound button at the bottom right of the player, users are brought to a page featuring other Shorts that use the same sound. Now, users can save the sound, making it accessible across both YouTube and YouTube Music, where they can listen to it or use it in Shorts of their own.

Sounds On Shorts creates a direct integration between YouTube’s music streaming service and its rising short-form video feature. As a result, it helps users discover the music featured in the Shorts they watch. This is beneficial because it can help drive up streaming numbers on YouTube Music. Simultaneously, it makes the creation of Shorts easier by letting users curate music that they can add to their Shorts content.

Artists will see benefits from this too. YouTube recently reported that user-generated content (UGC) drove 30% of the $6 billion it paid to artists last year. More UGC in the form of Shorts incorporating music will help drive this number up.
