YouTube Launches YouTube Giving To Provide Creators With Tools To Donate To Charity
YouTube is launching YouTube Giving, a new set of tools to help creators and fans raise money for charity. The company made the announced in a recent blog post, revealing that the inspiration for YouTube Giving is the creators themselves. It stated, "Our inspiration for building YouTube Giving tools has been you -- the way you use your voices to create impact on important issues, whether helping out in a crisis or championing a cause."
Currently, in beta mode, YouTube Giving consists of the following features: Fundraisers, Community Fundraisers, Campaign Matching, and Super Chat for Good.
Below is a breakdown of each:
Fundraisers
With this feature, YouTube creators and qualifying US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits have the ability to create and embed a fundraising campaign next to their videos and live streams. The campaign will feature a "Donate" button, which fans can use to donate to the campaign. Once a creator sets up the campaign, YouTube will handle the rest. It will take care of the logistics and payment processing, making it very easy for creators and fans to come together and raise funds for causes that they care about the most.
Community Fundraisers
Community Fundraisers is very similar to Fundraisers, however, this feature allows a group of US creators and qualifying US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits to join forces and co-host the same fundraisers. The fundraising campaign will appear next to both participating creators' videos at the same time. In addition, the overall amount of money raised between the creators will be reflected.
Campaign Matching
This feature allows creators who organize Fundraisers and Community Fundraisers to receive matching pledges from creators or brands. Matching pledges will be displayed next to the video as a way to inspire others to get involved and donate to the cause.
Super Chat For Good
Super Chat For Good is a variation of Super Chat that enables creators to raise funds for qualifying US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits on live streams and Premiere videos. 100% of Super Chat for Good purchases will be automatically routed to a qualifying nonprofit of the creators' choice.
A lot of YouTube creators have participated in charitable causes, however, they have done so through other sites like GoFundMe, Kickstarter, Patreon, and Indiegogo. With YouTube Giving being launched, the company may be able to keep creators from going elsewhere for their charity efforts since it is now providing them with a variety of tools to raise money and donate to causes they care about.
