Yahoo Launches Yahoo For Creators Program to Allow Creators To Publish and Monetize Stories Across Yahoo News

Yahoo for Creators Program

Yahoo / Yahoo for Creators

Yahoo is launching Yahoo for Creators, a new program that allows creators to publish, monetize, and expand their audiences across the Yahoo News network, boasting over 185 million monthly U.S. visitors.

How It Works

Creators will be equipped with a set of tools for publishing and monitoring the performance of their content. These stories will seamlessly blend with Yahoo's traditional news content produced by its in-house journalists and partner publishers, but will be distinguished by a 'Yahoo Creator' label.

Interestingly, creators won't need to pitch their stories and will maintain the freedom to post as they see fit, as long as they comply with Yahoo's guidelines. However, the platform will employ both technology and human moderation to monitor and revise content as necessary.

They will also have the chance to generate income from their stories, with ad placements offering a 50/50 revenue split and affiliate links providing an 80/20 split.

Who's Eligible?

The program is initially launching with 21 carefully selected creators, among them Amber Kemp-Gerstel, Raziq Rauf, Bret Hartinger, and Michael Jensen. However, other creators can apply. To qualify, creators must meet the following criteria:

  • Be based in the United States and be at least 18 years old.

  • Have a minimum of 1,000 followers across eligible platforms, including Medium, Substack, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, or YouTube.

  • Produce content with a distinct 'unique point of view' within categories like fashion, fitness, home/DIY, humor, parenting, technology, or travel.

Adapting to Evolving Media Landscape

With Yahoo for Creators, Yahoo is adapting to today’s evolving media landscape, where people, including younger demographics such as Gen Z, increasingly rely on creators and social media platforms for news and information.

By establishing a network of creators, Yahoo can cater to these audiences while expanding its coverage to feature more lifestyle-focused topics.

Opportunities for Creators

For creators, this presents an opportunity to collaborate with one of the industry's major players, leveraging Yahoo's extensive network to reach new audiences and earn meaningful revenue through creator-friendly revenue-sharing models.

Integration of Creators with Traditional Publishers

The launch of Yahoo for Creators features several emerging trends, notably the growing integration of creators and their content alongside traditional publishers and media outlets.

This has been coming to life in many ways, from platforms like YouTube making it easy for viewers to find content from their favorite creators alongside premium streaming content to brands launching creator programs that make creators an extension of their talent pools.

For example, along similar lines to Yahoo for Creators, a few months ago, Allure Magazine launched the Allure Creators Network, which provided a curated group of creators with the same credentialing as its in-house writers and beauty experts.
