Top Dawg Entertainment opens up sports division, signs former LSU running back Derrius Guice
With a roster featuring superstar talent like Kendrick Lamar and SZA, Top Dawg Entertainment is one of the top imprints in the music business. Now, it is looking to make a splash in the sports business.
On Friday (January 19th), the company announced that it is opening up a sports division that will be led by longtime agent Fadde Mikhail and operate out of Los Angeles. It also announced that its first client is former LSU running back Derrius Guice, a standout player who rushed for 3,074 yards and 29 touchdowns during his three seasons at the SEC school.
“They were the first guys who came to me, just like LSU was the first school to offer me a scholarship. I didn’t forget that," Guice told ESPN's Darrell Rovell.
Guice signing to TDE follows a recent trend of high-profile collegiate athletes signing with companies known for music first. Guice's former LSU teammate Leonard Fournette signed with Jay Z's Roc Nation last year while Penn State former running back Saquon Barley signed to the company a few weeks ago.
In other sports business news, the NFL is interested in getting sponsors for its playoff games.
