TikTok has launched a new Voiceover tool for creators.

"With the voiceover tool, users will have the ability to add their voice to any video they make. Whether they're narrating a story, adding their own voice to a song, or simply describing what's seen on camera, creators can use this new feature in countless ways to help make engaging content," the short-form video app said in a blog post.

In addition to the feature, TikTok launched a #Voiceover trend on its Discover page, which encourages creators to try out the new feature and tell everyone what is going on in their world.

The app's inspiration for creating this feature is rooted in the role that voiceovers have played in visual storytelling for many years. It cites movies like Goodfellas, The Sandlot, and Pootie Tang as examples of how voiceovers have been effectively utilized to "expand inner monologues, an interesting perspective, and character development within a narrative."

Insights & Analysis:

TikTok already had a robust suite of editing tools that allow creators to flex their creativity. and the addition of Voiceover enables creators to have even more freedom with their videos especially when it comes to storytelling.

Many creators were adding voiceovers to their TikTok videos before but using third-party apps like iMovie or InShot to do so. Now, with a native voiceover feature, it’s likely that the number of videos that include voiceovers increases significantly. Despite being only released a few days ago, the #Voiceover trend page has a whopping 1B views on videos tagged with #Voiceover, showing an early indication that the feature is catching on with creators.

As TikTok continues to expand its library of editing tools and releases new tools like Voiceover and Pinning Stickers, which launched a few months ago, look for creators to push the envelope and share even more creative home. Right now, the short-form video app is home to some of the creative and engaging content and that likely isn’t going to change for a while.
