Fresh off a new integration with TikTok, Teespring launches a new Digital Products feature for creators.

With Digital Products, creators can sell non-physical assets to their fans. These include e-services, digital events, printable products, and much more.

“With this new architecture, we can support creators like never before, unlocking a broad spectrum of commerce and allowing them to engage with all of their fans through a variety of physical and digital products,” Teespring CEO Chris Lamontagne said in a statement.

Before officially launching, the company tested Digital Products with notable creators such as TikToker Bonnie RSM and YouTuber Simon’s Cat, who used the new feature to sell presets and digital planners, respectively.

The launch into digital products are the result of the company seeing an uptick in non-apparel merchandise. In fact, non-apparel merchandise is tracking to outsell apparel by the end of next year.

“We have seen a significant shift in how creators are selling and by 2021 we expect to see double lift in non-apparel products on the platform,” Lamontage said.

As of right now, about 450,000 creators are eligible for Digital Products.

Insights & Analysis:

The launch of Digital Products comes at a time where creator monetization is a focus. With more creators looking to monetize their audience outside of traditional brand and influencer partnerships, platforms like Teespring have become valuable in helping them do just that. Through integrations with YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, and TikTok, Teespring has shelled out tens of millions of dollars to creators, who utilize their platform to sell merchandise.

Over the years, creators have focused on selling physical goods such as t-shirts, hats, mugs, and cellphone cases, but there has been an increasing shift in creators selling non-physical goods such as digital planners, phone wallpapers, presets/filters, and audiobooks. This shift can be attributed to the expansion and diversification of creators as well as advancements in technology.

With creators now ranging from traditional social media influencers to photographers to financial experts, Digital Products offers creators of all types and sizes to easily monetize their following by selling digital products that align with their niche. Although influencer campaigns are likely still the main source of monetization for most creators, the pandemic has led to more creators seeking alternative revenue streams like selling directly to their followers.

Teespring's foray into digital products will further help with this shift as creators now have the flexibility to sell both physical and/or digital products.

Due to the success that Teespring has been having, the recent launch of other creator-first platforms like Stir, and a general shift in creators diversifying revenue streams, the creator ecosystem will grow with more companies and platforms focused on supporting creators, entering.

Whether you have an idea for a creator-first business or you’re a creator that wants to monetize, there isn’t a better time to get started than now.
