Pinterest Removes the Option to Add Music to Pins

Pinterest has quietly removed the option to add music to Pins. Although the platform hasn’t made an official announcement, its Using Music in Pins section now shows that the music library is no longer available for new Pins. It states:

“While the option to add music to your Pins is no longer available, existing Pins with music will continue to play as normal. However, you can no longer add music from the Pinterest library to new Pins.”

Why It Matters: In 2022, Pinterest partnered with major music publishers like Warner Music Group and Merlin to allow creators to add trending music to Idea Pins, similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels. However, this feature didn’t resonate as expected with Pinterest’s audience, and the platform also removed its TikTok-like feed.

Given the high cost of music rights, this likely contributed to Pinterest’s decision to remove the music library.

From TikTok’s licensing battles to Meta muting Reels audio when agreements change, Pinterest’s removal of its music library highlights a trend: creators need to be cautious with commercial music. While it can help increase reach and capitalize on trends, licensing changes or expirations can impact monetization and audience engagement.
