Mastodon Adds Clickable Author Bylines to Boost Journalists' Cross-Platform Presence

Mastodon / Bylines

Mastodon, an X alternative, has added an author byline feature. Some links shared on the platform will include a clickable author byline that links to the author’s associated fediverse account, which could also be Threads, Flipboard, or other decentralized platforms. Initial websites that will implement this are The Verge, MacStories, and MacRumors, but news organizations can request access.

Why It Matters: News content is undergoing significant changes, with platforms like Facebook moving away from it, while others such as YouTube and LinkedIn are increasingly embracing it. This shift gravitates Mastodon more towards news content, attracting writers and journalists seeking greater exposure and readers who wish to easily follow their work across platforms, even as they switch publications.
