LinkedIn Announces New Live Video Feature Called ‘LinkedIn Live’
LinkedIn announced it will soon dive into live video content with a new live video feature called LinkedIn Live. The feature will give users the ability to broadcast real-time video to their audience. The format of it will be reminiscent of Facebook Live as there will be a section under the video feed for viewers to leave comments and give “likes.”
Launching in beta first in the U.S., LinkedIn Live will be invite only, however users who want access to the feature can apply via a form.
The Microsoft-owned social networking platform sees LinkedIn Live being utilized for content relating to Q&As, conferences, product announcements, earnings calls, and much more. In an effort to help users create more polished videos at launch, the company is working with third-party video creators like Wirecast, Switcher Studio, Wowza Media Systems, Socialive and Brandlive.
LinkedIn Live follows LinkedIn’s native video offering, which debuted a little over a year and a half ago. The company revealed that since then, live video has been the most requested feature. Considering the demand for it as well as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, and others have some version of live video, it’s a no-brainer for LinkedIn to start to pay attention to live video.
Due to being late to the live video game, Linkedin likely will have some initial trouble breaking through, but if it doubles down on its niche of professional networking and thought leadership, it should have success.
Back in the fall, it rolled out integration with Vimeo, allowing Vimeo creators to naively publish videos directly to the platform.
