Instagram Rolls Out Customizable Profile Cards Globally

Instagram / Profile Card

Instagram is rolling out a new, customizable Profile Card globally after testing it over the past few months.

This two-sided card, available through the "Share Profile" option, features key details like a user's bio, avatar, links, and music on one side, with a QR code on the other. Users can also personalize their card's background, making it more unique.

These cards can be shared via text or downloaded to share across other platforms.

Why It Matters: Profile Cards essentially function as digital business cards, making it easy for users to share their profiles. For creators, this feature helps them connect with other creators or brands for potential collaborations, while everyday users can use it to effortlessly connect with new friends on Instagram.

With nearly 60% of Gen Z aspiring to become influencers, Instagram has evolved into a digital portfolio and resume platform. The Profile Card offers a practical way to showcase one’s work and personal brand.

Instagram has supported QR codes for profiles since 2018, but this update allows users to share a more visually appealing and information-rich profile. Additionally, the platform has expanded QR code functionality to Broadcast Channels this year.

While QR codes have become commonplace across social platforms, YouTube recently joined the mix with Creator QR codes.
