Facebook Launches Lasso, A TikTok Clone Geared Towards Teens
As rumors predicted, Facebook has launched a TikTok clone in a new app called Lasso.
Per a Facebook statement to The Verge, “Lasso is a new standalone app for short-form, entertaining videos - from comedy to beauty to fitness and more. We’re excited about the potential here, and we’ll be gathering feedback from people and creators.”
On the app, users can create and share 15-second videos with fun editing tools and effects and add background music from the app’s extensive music library. These videos currently can be shared to Facebook Stories while integration with Instagram Stories is on the way. Users can also follow other creators, discover popular video trends, and search hashtags.
If you’re interested in trying out the app, you can easily sign up by connecting your Facebook or Instagram account and authorizing the app to access your profile page, photos, and videos. Once you’re logged on, videos will populate based on your profile. At the bottom of the app will be a camera icon where you can record a video as well as see which hashtags are trending.
Facebook has recently seen a decline in usage among teens so launching an app geared towards teens is the right move. It's early but if you take into consideration the success that Facebook has had with copying other apps such as Snapchat, it makes you think that Lasso will be some sort of success despite TikTok's dominance.
In Facebook news, it recently revealed a trio of new music features to make it easier users to connect.
