CapCut, ByteDance's Video Editing App, Surpasses 200 Million Monthly Active Users
CapCut, an all-in-one video editing app owned by ByteDance, has reportedly reached over 200 million monthly active users. The app has become a widely used tool for creators to edit and produce professional-looking videos using templates, filters, visual effects, and audio. These videos are then shared on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Last year, CapCut launched the CapCut US Creator program, which rewarded creators with cash payments for producing templates. Reports also indicate that the app is working on adding generative AI features, where creators could use text prompts to create videos in seconds.
This milestone comes as ByteDance's sister company TikTok navigates scrutiny from governing bodies worldwide, particularly in the US. While CapCut is ByteDance's third most popular app, it has not gained the same level of attention from the general public as TikTok, likely due to its focus on editing rather than social networking. If TikTok were to be banned in the US, other ByteDance apps like Lark and Lemon8 would likely face a similar fate, which would be another hit to creators.
