Bluesky Tests Trending Topics Feature as User Base Exceeds 25 Million

Bluesky's new Trending Topics feature

Bluesky

Bluesky is testing Trending Topics, which will highlight popular and viral topics. The new feature is available in English at launch and is accessible on both desktop and mobile. Users can access it via the search icon in the bottom bar of the app or the right-side bar on desktop, and disable it with an X button in the app or in Settings. Muted words and phrases will also be muted in Trending Topics.

Bluesky says this is the first iteration of the feature, and it will make improvements based on feedback from users.

Why It Matters: With over 25 million users and growing, Bluesky continues to add new features. This time, it takes inspiration from Threads, which has been launching its own share of Bluesky-inspired features in recent weeks, including its iteration of Starter Packs.

Like Threads’ feature, Trending Topics will help users find content related to what’s being discussed in real time across the platform, which can drive more engagement and connect users to relevant content. The small nuance of carrying over muted words to Trending Topics is helpful in ensuring users can still avoid content they aren’t interested in.
