BeReal Introduces Friends of Friends Feed and Other New Features
BeReal has introduced several new features, the most significant of which is the Friends of Friends feed, replacing the original Discovery Feed. This feed shows posts from a user's extended network. Users can choose to share their BeReals exclusively with their friends or include them in the Friends of Friends feed through a new audience setting for posts, which can be updated at any time. Users can also permanently exclude mutual friends from appearing in the feed.
The app has also rolled out Pins and Mentions. Pins allow users to pin up to three BeReals to their profile, giving a snapshot of their interests or notable posts. Mentions enable users to tag other accounts in the captions of their BeReals. These features are now standard across major social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
In addition, BeReal has improved its Friends Recommendations by utilizing more data to provide users with friend suggestions from within their circle who are not currently on their Friends list. Friend Recommendations will also be displayed in more areas throughout the app.
These new features add more social elements to the BeReal app. The Friends of Friends feed aligns more closely with BeReal's goal of showing users content from those they care about most, rather than from celebrities or other influential individuals.
With the "Pins" feature, users can highlight their favorite BeReals, giving profile visitors a glimpse into their interests and catching them up on BeReals they may have missed. Mentions facilitate the tagging of others who are relevant to a particular BeReal, allowing for more interactive and connected posts. According to BeReal, the Mentions feature will evolve over time, likely enabling users to share BeReals in which they have been tagged in the future.
Although BeReal's growth has slowed since its introduction a year ago, the company continues to stay active by adding new features and updates. According to BeReal, more enhancements are expected this fall.
