VSCO announced that it is expanding its video capabilities. Previously the Generation Z friendly platform allowed users to edit videos, however, now it is giving users who have a VSCO membership, the ability to publish and share those edited videos directly to the VSCO feed.

In the announcement blog post, VSCO shared that despite not "having the ability to post videos directly onto VSCO until today," video editing on the app has doubled over the past year.

You can edit and publish videos in a similar fashion to how you would edit and publish photos on the app. Below is a breakdown of how to do so:

  1. Tap the plus icon at the top right corner of your VSCO studio

  2. Tap the 'Video' tab and select the video that you like to edit

  3. Choose a preset and adjust the edit settings (i.e. Exposure, Contrast, HSL)

  4. Save the video to your camera roll and then select it from the camera roll tray within VSCO

  5. Click the 'Post' bottom at the bottom of the screen, add your caption and then hit 'Post' to share to your VSCO feed

Currently, the feature is available for iOS users but support for Android devices is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

As a result of its recent acquisition of video technology company, Rylo, VSCO also announced that more video capabilities will be on the way, as soon as later this tear.

Insights & Analysis:

VSCO expanding its video capabilities shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Acquiring Rylo and launching DSCO, its GIF creation tool, foreshadowed its deeper interest in video features and tools. That combined with the continued emergence of video content as a whole, makes the Joel Flory-helmed company’s commitment to video a no-brainer.
