TikTok Is Testing A New User Profile Design That Is Reminiscent Of Instagram
As its user base continues to grow, TikTok continues to test and experiment on the app. A month after testing a new music tab on select verified artist profiles, the Byte-Dance owned company is now testing a new user-profile design.
Discovered by New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz, the new user profile design is reminiscent of Instagram.

Based on the screenshots shared, the new user profile shifts a users’ profile photo, bio, and following, follower, and like counts to the left from the center of the screen. Additionally, a big red follow button is next to these and under it are any links that the user adds to other social media platforms Instagram and YouTube.
”We’re always looking for ways to improve the user experience on TikTok. We are currently testing profile designs and functionality to ultimately give users more ways to personalize and engage with their profiles,” a TikTok spokesperson told The Verge.
Insights & Analysis:
Social media platforms copying or at least being inspired by each other isn’t anything new.
After all, Instagram took Snapchat’s Stories content format and it has become one of the app’s most popular features. Based on that, it’s hard to fault TikTok for putting its own twist on Instagram’s user profiles design. Besides the updated design being much cleaner and aesthetically pleasing, I wouldn’t be surprised if TikTok was doing this in an effort to make the transition from Instagram to TikTok a much easier and familiar one for new users.
Regardless of what the reason is, look for social media platforms to continue to borrow from each other.
