Spotify Pilots Video-Based Courses Through Partnerships with Educational Platforms

Spotify Pilots Video-Based Courses

Spotify

Spotify is testing video-based courses through new partnerships with educational platforms such as BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare, and Thinkific. The courses fall into four categories: Make Music, Get Creative, Learn Business, and Healthy Living, and will be displayed alongside music, podcasts, and audiobooks.

This pilot program is currently available in the UK, where both free users and Premium subscribers can sample two lessons for free before deciding to purchase more.

Why It Matters: This initiative provides an opportunity for educational creators to reach Spotify's 25 million users in the UK. Spotify's personalized recommendation system will suggest courses based on users’ listening habits and searches, putting these creators in front of a relevant audience. For example, if you often listen to podcasts about the creator economy, you might be recommended a course about the business side of content creation.

This move aligns with the growing trend of content creators developing courses as an additional income source and the increasing demand for digital educational content.

It also represents another milestone in Spotify's expansion beyond music. Along with video-based courses, it has recently added audiobooks and music videos. This, along with the addition of social features, Spotify is one of the prime examples of the convergence of social media, streaming services, and search engines.
