Subscription is a populaur business model in today's start-up climate. Thanks to the success of companies like Netflix and Blue Apron, new companies utilizing this model pop up everyday.  Today, the Seattle-based Rep The Squad becomes the latest company to enter the market, officially launching its subscription jersey rental club.

Co-founded by veteran e-commerce executive Brian Watkins, the company plans to disrupt the $18 billion sports apparel market by giving fans the opportunity to rent their favorite players' jersey.  In a day where fans cheer for multiple teams and players and where a player can be cut or traded at anytime, Watkins wants to provide fans "with a new way of expressing allegiance, loyalty and devotion to their favorite city, team and players.”

At a monthly price of $19.95 for adults and $16.95 for children, the process of renting a jersey is simple. After creating a profile on the company's website and a "digital locker" of players and styles, the first jersey will be sent out and arrive at the customers' door within three days. When they are done wearing it, they can return it in a prepaid envelope, the next jersey in their "digital locker" will be sent out. Customers don't have to worry about dirtying up their jerseys either. The company dry cleans jerseys in between rentals, sending a fresh and clean one out each time.

As of launch, the company only offers jerseys of the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions, but they eventually plan on including all major sports teams in their jersey selection.

Backed by Madrona Venture Group, an early Amazon investor, and Maveron, which is was co-founded by Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz, the company has a number of athlete investors that include Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate, and Los Angeles Chargers tackle Russell Okung. Giving the company even more power, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman serves as the brand's first ambassador.
