Redbox launches Redbox On Demand

Redbox is finally going digital. The company announced the launch of a new digital movie and TV rental service called Redbox On Demand that will supplement its kiosk offerings.

Available on the Redbox website, the Redbox app, Apple TV, Chromecast, LG, and Samsung Smart TVs, and Roku, customers can now rent or purchase movies and TV shows for streaming. The content that they purchase can then be downloaded for offline, on-the-go watching.

So far, the company has inked deals for the service with Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures . The service will offer many of the same new-releases that can be found at its kiosks but it will also include a library of older movies and TV shows.

The service starts at $3.99 for 48-hour VOD rentals and movie purchases start at $9.99 for EST transactions. Both prices are in line with iTunes, Amazon, and other digital movie rental and purchase services.
