Porsche is launching a car subscription service called Porsche Passport

Porsche Passport

German automobile manufacturer Porsche is the newest company to get into the subscription service business. Yesterday (October 10th),  it announced it is launching a car subscription service called Porsche Passport that gives customers access to a host of sports cars and SUVs at their demand via a mobile app.

Porsche Passort features two tiers; Launch and Accelerate. The Launch tier costs $2,000 per month and gives customers access to eight vehicles including the Boxster, Cayman S, Cayenne, and Macan S. The Accelerate costs $3,000 per month and gives customers access to 22 vehicles including the 911 Carrera S and Panamera 4S.  For both tiers, the monthly fees include vehicle tax, registration, insurance, maintenance, and detailing. In addition, there is a one-time activation fee of $500.

With the help of Clutch Technologies, who designed the app, the company is rolling out a pilot program in November in Atlanta, where its North American headquarters is located. Those who live in Atlanta can apply to the program by downloading the Porsche Passport app to a Apple or Android device. After going through a background and credit check and getting approval, the vehicle of their choice will be delivered to a location in metro Atlanta  "white glove" concierge. From there, they can use the app to schedule same-day or future vehicle exchanges.

Porsche Passport fits in with the company's Strategy 2025, which Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America says "is to be the most aspirational brand in a new era of mobility and consumer expectations. Catering to customers’ desire to experience our sports cars in new ways is a part of our core strategy."

Porsche isn't the first manufacturer to offer a subscription service program. Last April, General Motors launched Book By Cadillac. The service is cheaper at $1,500 per month but limits customers to 18 swamps each year.  Currently, it's only available in New York City.
