Pinterest Announces A Collection Of Exercises & Resources For Mental Health Support
Pinterest recently announced that it will be providing a new search experience that includes a collection of mental health exercises and resources for those who are in distress. Whenever a user searches for things such as “stress quotes,” “work anxiety” or any other terms along those lines, they will receive a pop-up notification that links them to exercises and resources they can use to help improve their mood.
Created with help from Brainstorm, Stanford’s Lab for Mental Health Innovation and advice from Vibrant Emotional Health and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Pinterest says these exercises and resources aren't meant to replace professional help, but instead provide emotional support when a user is stressed, anxious or sad.
The new experience looks different from the rest of the Pinterest app. Users' interactions with the exercises and resources are private and not connected to their account, which should pleased anyone that is interested in utilizing them but want to keep their personal issues to themselves. Users also won’t be shown any recommendations or ads based on their interaction or use of the exercises and resources. In fact, all data related to this experience will be stored anonymously with a third-party.
"Over the years we’ve worked with experts to make it easy for people in distress to access supportive resources. Together we wanted to create a more compassionate, actionable experience that tries to address a broader emotional spectrum of what Pinners may be looking for," Product Manager Annie Ta noted in a blog post announcement.
These exercises and resources will be available for all users in the U.S. in the coming weeks for iOS and Android devices. Eventually, all users across the world will be able to access them in the future.
