Google Maps' new features will make it a more personalized experience
Over the next few months, Google Maps will be rolling out new features that will make it more than just an app that helps you get to where you need to go. Featuring a more personalized experience, the app's new features will help you find new things to do, new places to eat and drink, and much more.
Redesigned Explore Tab
The redesigned Explore tab focuses on new and interesting things nearby. When you click on a particular area, options for dining, activities, events, and much more will appear. In addition, there will be a trending section that features various lists curated by trusted tastemakers and local experts.
Coming soon, we’re adding a new tab to @googlemaps called "For you." Designed to tell you what you need to know about the neighborhoods you care about, see new places that are opening or whats trending, personal recommendations and more. #io18 pic.twitter.com/CtqQsWFyot

For You
With so much information, it can sometimes be hard to keep up with everything. Thanks to the app's For You tab, you'll be able to stay updated with the latest and greatest happenings in the areas that you're most interested in. The app gives you the option to follow a particular neighborhood or dining spot and get notifications for future events that they are hosting.
Matches
When you tap on any restaurant, bar, or coffee shop, a match will be displayed. Utilizing machine learning that takes in account of information about a business, your past food and drinks preferences in the app, restaurant ratings, and more, you'll be presented with a number that suggests how likely you will enjoy this particular place and reasons why.
Coming soon, you can also use @googlemaps to easily make plans as a group. Create a shortlist of places within the app and instantly share it with friends across any platform to take a vote and quickly decide on where to go. #io18 pic.twitter.com/thdvUf8qQ7

Group Planning
If you're someone that often likes goes out in groups, then the app's new group planning feature will come in handy. The feature allows you to make a shortlist of places that you're interested in by long pressing on them. When you and your group decide where you want to go, you can book the reservation and find a ride all within the app.
These new features are expected to be available sometime this summer for both iOS and Android devices.
