After months of teasing sports fans of all ages, ESPN has announced it will launch its new subscription streaming service April 12th. The Disney-backed company made the big annoucement earlier this week.

Officially called ESPN+, the service will cost subscribers $4.99 per month. According to the company, it is the "premier all-in-one digital sports platforn for fans."

Subscribers will have access to thousands of live sports events including over 180 MLB games, over 180 NFL games, year-round boxing, over 250 MLS games, and college sports and events. They will also have access to "high quality original shows and films, exclusive studio programs, and an unmatched on-demand library. "

Instead of ESPN rolling out a standalone app for ESPN+, the service will be intergrated into ESPN's main mobile app, which will be completely redesigned and reimagined, the day of the launch.

ESPN+ is Disney's first streaming service offering but it won't be the last. In 2019, the company plans to battle Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime by launching its own branded content streaming service featuring Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm movies
