BeReal Explores New Paid Features To Monetize As Copycats Emerge

With the proliferation of copycats, BeReal is reportedly exploring new features to monetize its platform.

According to Financial Times, BeReal is looking to add paid features to generate revenue as an alternative to advertisements. However, it remains focused on being ad-free as it believes ads hinder the user experience.

BeReal's flagship product will remain free, while new functionality would come at a cost. Currently, there are no details on the potential cost, but based on Twitter Blue and Snapchat+, it's probably in the $2.99 to $4.99 range.

Regardless of cost, paid features have proven to be hit or miss. For example, Snapchat+ generated over $5 million during the first month of being live. Twitter, however, generated just tens of thousands of dollars during the same period. For BeReal to succeed with paid features, it must ensure that what it offers is valuable to users. Considering how the app works, one potential add-on that could be valuable is the ability for users to have a longer window than two minutes to post their photo before it is considered a late post.

Paid features have become a current theme as social media platforms seek to expand their revenue streams and make up for lost ad revenue from Apple's privacy changes.

Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Meta created a new division to build new paid features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
