The Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves announce jersey sponsorships with Walt Disney Company and FitBit
The Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves are the latest teams to announce they will sport advertisement patches on their jerseys for the 2017-2018 season, the first year the NBA is allowing jersey sponsorships.
The Magic will partner with Walt Disney Company, which makes the most sense out of any of the announced sponsorships. In addition to sporting the the 2½-inch by 2½-inch patch on their jerseys, the Magic will have Disney branded special seating, sell Walt Disney World annual passes, and sell jerseys with the Walt Disney logo.
As for the Timberwolves, they inked a three year deal with FitBit, which will go beyond advertisement patches. The global leader in wearables will provide the team, its basketball staff, and business staff with tracking devices that will give them insight on their health and fitness. In addition, FitBit will be intergrated into the team's mobile app, featured in the renovated Target Center through signage and the team store, and be involved in community relation events. They are also working on a way to incorporate the new concessions menus into the FitBit app and help fans make more informed decisions about what to eat and drink during games.
With the addition of the Magic and Timberwolves, there are now eight teams that are scheduled to wear advertisement patches on their jerseys in the upcoming season. The other teams are the Boston Celtics (General Electric), Philadelphia Sixers (StubHub), Brooklyn Nets (Infor), Sacramento Kings(Blue Diamond Almonds), Utah Jazz (5 For The Fight), and Cleveland Cavaliers (Goodyear).
It's likely that a few other teams will announce jersey sponsorships during the offseason.
