Gucci Mane celebrates one year of freedom with Metro Boomin produced 'Drop Top Wop'
It's been a year since Gucci Mane was set free from prison following a three year stint. In just 365 days as a free man, the Atlanta veteran has done quite a bit.
He has done more in a year than what most artists do their entire career. He released several albums including Everybody Looking, Woptober, and The Return of East Atlanta, and went on his first national tour in The Trap God Tour. In addition, he got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Keyshia Ka'oir and wrote a book (The Autobiography of Gucci Mane), due out this September.
To celebrate his first year out, Gucci drops the long-awaited Drop Top Wop album, which is entirely produced by Metro Boomin with additional help from Southside. At just 10 tracks, its one of the rapper's shortest projects to date. What it lacks in length, it makes up for in quality.
With help from frequent collaborators 2 Chainz, Young Dolph, Rick Ross, and Offset, the rapper delivers a respectable collection of music that is an appropriate celebration of his freedom and success.
Led by personal favorites, "Met Gala" and "Both Eyes Closed," Gucci's strong effort features sharp verses delivered with a silky flow over Metro's hard-hitting production.
Shortly after releasing the album, he called into Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show to talk about the album, its recording process, his upcoming wedding, autobiography, and much more. The interview is less than five minutes long but it's insightful and gives fans a glimpse into the mind of the hardworking Atlanta rapper.
You can listen and purchase Drop Top Wop via Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud or Tidal. Don't be surprised if Gucci returns with another project in the next month or two!
